Since When Have Google Been Watching WordPress’ Back?

30th June 2011 |  Written by Dave Ashworth

Logging into Webmaster Tools today we saw a message from the Google Search Quality Team informing us that a version of WordPress installed on one of our sites was out of date.

We knew about this anyway, as when you log in to WordPress you are told this and are given the option to update – but since when have Google been keeping an eye on 3rd party products?  Are there similar messages sent if you have an out of date Joomla or Drupal installation?  Or are Google making moves on WordPress, if indeed they’re already not up to something behind our backs?

Or is that a cynical notion and in fact the Search Quality Team just nice, considerate folk?
